If You Forgot LinkSys Router Password

The Linksys router passwords for all are setup at the same time as the initial router setup and can be changed later, but it is definitely important to reset the password for avoiding unauthorized access to the router's webpage. But once after having set the password one is finding tough to remember his Linksys router password or has simply forgotten it, then following these simple instructions should surely help you out.

1-If you have forgotten your Linksys router password, reset your Linksys router to the first stage i.e. to its factor default settings, and to restore the router configuration to factor defaults, hold the reset button for 30 seconds which will reset default name and access IP address also.

2-Reconfigure the whole system again and manage the Linksys router passwords by connecting the Ethernet ports to the computer while logging into the URL http://192.168.1.1/. This will allow you to view a dialog box and ask you for the username and the password to login to your router, in which you should enter "admin" for both the fields. On the older versions of Linksys routers, the default name is blank and the default password is "admin", but for the newer Linksys routers, the default name and the password will be "admin" only. Once passing off the login screen, the reconfiguration of the Linksys router is done. One can now visit the management tab and change the admin password to some other password to avoid other's access to router. Post changing the administrator password; enable the WAP or WEP security so that others are deprived of gaining unauthorized access into your wireless network.

Even after following these instructions and resetting your Linksys router, there could be some glitches for which suggested useful tips can surely help you in case you forget your Linksys router password.

1- Always keep a printed copy of the required important data, by keeping a code and other relevant facts about configurations, etc. for better management of Linksys router passwords.

2- To avoid forgetting the code at the first instance, always choose the right password which is a more complex code and not an easy one so that others find it difficult to guess or access, and keep the printed copy of this complex code safely so that you can restore it when needed.

3- Carefully read the instruction manual before installing and getting the router and the ports to work together efficiently, and educate you to get familiarized with the working of the different components in the router.

New In Linksys E-4200 Dual Band Gigabit Router

Linksys E-4200 N750 Wireless N dual band simultaneous gigabit router is the new router introduced in Jan 2011 - the first router introduced by Linksys with N750 technology.

Linksys E-4200 N750 is powered by the latest wireless 802.11n technology with dual band simultaneous supports and it is compatible with the 802.11b/g legacy clients. If you still have some computers with legacy Wi-Fi 802.11b or g, they are still compatible with the router but with maximum speeds your clients can connect.

High Speeds

The main difference between the former Linksys E-3000 and Linksys E-4200 is the speed specs. The maximum speeds for E-3000 is 300Mbps theoretically for either 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands which is commonly known as the N600 router. While the Linksys E-4200 speed is 300Mbps for 2.4GHz band and 450Mbps for 5GHz band - this is commonly known as N750 routers.

The router includes full 3x3 MIMO antenna array for maximum range and reliability. With the high speeds of up to 450Mbps (for 5GHz band) and the longer distance range coverage and with the addition of QoS feature, the router provides maximum high performance wireless environment for high speed HD media streaming and smooth and fast response gaming experiences. QoS (Quality of Service) technology is the capability of the router to provide the traffic prioritization for gaming and streaming over other data traffic.

NETGEAR also introduced the N750 router WNDR4000 which is almost the same specs as the Linksys E-4200 router. Both routers are equipped with the Gigabit WAN (1 port) and Gigabit LAN (4 ports) Ethernet interfaces. With Gigabit LAN interface, you can connect any computers with gigabit NIC enabled using Cat5e network cable for high speed wired connection.

Like NETGEAR WNDR4000, the Linksys E-4200 includes one Gigabit WAN port. For home users who subscribe Cable internet services, you can connect to the high speed DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem such as Surfboard SB6120 which includes gigabit Ethernet port for optimum data throughput.

USB Port

Linksys E-4200 includes one built-in USB port with UPnP Media Server to let you share an external storage with the users on the local network or securely access via the internet by means of VPN connection. With the built-in UPnP AV Media Server you can stream your HD media to other media devices including the XBOX, PS3, Blu-Ray players, and TV.

Unfortunately, you cannot use this USB port to host a USB printer for sharing. To share the printer via the network you need to buy separate wireless print server or you can use the computer and configure it traditionally for print-server.

Compared to the Netgear Premium edition WNDR3800, the router supports the USB port that can be used to host an external storage or USB printer for sharing. But the WNDR3800 delivers the maximum speeds of up to300Mbps (N600 technology). Should you require the environment that supports both storage and printer for sharing, you may consider Belkin HD N600 which includes two USB ports for storage and printer.

Advanced Security

Like other new routers with wireless 802.11n support, the router supports the latest wireless security encryption: WPA/WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access) the stronger wireless security compared with the WEP (for legacy 802.11b/g devices). The Linksys E-Series supports the RADIUS as well if your business network supports the RADIUS server for Authentication and Authorization. You can enable the router for RADIUS to integrate with the RADIUS server for centralized authentication.

Not many routers support the Guest network access. Guest network access can be enabled to allow your guests access the internet without gaining access to your local network. You can enable the Guest access to allow up to 5 guests to access the Internet without compromising your local network.

All the must have security features including the NAT and SPI are also included for protecting the network against any threats. The DHCP must have feature also included to provide the IP address automatically to all the computers on the network.

Should you require the maximum speeds of the wireless environment for demanding high intensive bandwidth applications such as for smooth gaming and HD media streaming, Linksys E-4200 is your choice.

Why Many People Use Linksys Routers?

Linksys is a division of Cisco Systems, Inc., and are the recognized global leader in VoIP, Wireless and Ethernet networking for home, and small business users. They are based in Irvine, California.

A Linksys router is the most popular model available today. There are several reasons for that. Linksys offers a very user friendly way to network all of your computers together. A few benefits of networking your computers with a Linksys router include:

Wireless Extenders YX545 zBoost Soho Dual Band Cell Phone Signal Extender Booster with YX039 zBoost Dual-Band Outdoor Antenna Upgrade- Share a high-speed, broadband cable or DSL Internet connection so everyone can surf the web simultaneously. Linksys Wireless Broadband Routers have four Ethernet ports and support up to 32 wireless users.

- Access your own private e-mail account while others surf the web. This is a perfect example of the flexibility Linksys gives everyone in your network.

- Share all types of files, including music, digital pictures, and documents

- Store your library of music, pictures, and files all in one place

- View digital pictures and listen to your music anywhere in the house

- Secure your computers against viruses

- Enjoy multi player and head-to-head games with friends or family from any room in the house

- Enjoy playing games online with people all over the world

-And many more...

A common complaint when using a Linksys router is interference between a 2.4 GHz phone system and the wireless network. A few things you can do is change the channel of the phone or the Router so they use different channels. You could also move the phone's base station so that it's farther away from the Router.

It is good to know that Linksys Routers only work with external cable or DSL modems featuring Ethernet ports. They do not work with ISDN, satellite connections, dial-up modems or modems featuring USB or RJ-11 connections. Linksys Routers are compatible with any platform that supports Ethernet and TCP/IP. The router must be connected to a cable or DSL modem.

Linksys offers a great support system for any problems you may be having. You view the FAQ's online at Linksys.com. They have a discussion forum where you can ask questions to other Linksys users anywhere in the world. You can submit an email support ticket or call their 1-800 technical support hot line as well.

How to Setting Up A Linksys Admin Router

If you have just purchased a Linksys wireless router, you will need to fully install it into your home or your place of business before you can begin to network or use it. One of the things you will need to do when installing your router is to enter your Linksys Admin codes. Because you need to ensure your overall security with your device, it is important that you find this code and keep it in a secure place.

What Is It?

The Linksys admin is a code that allows you to get into your administrator account. This account should be maintained by the person or people who will be responsible for keeping the network working properly. In most situations, it is rarely needed besides the first time, when you set up your network.

At that time, you be prompted to log into the router as the administrator. In most situations, you will have the default administrator code in place at this time, as long as you purchased the unit new and from the company directly. It will have a user name as well as a password that are set at the factory that the router was made at.

The default login for the Linksys wireless router, either the Linksys wireless broadband router or the DSL router will be specific to the make and model.
* If you have the Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Ethernet router, the admin will simply be Administrator.

* If you have the Linksys BEFW11S4 or the Linksys WRT54G, then the code will simply be admin. These two do not have any password associated with them when they are new.

* If you have the Linksys Comcast routers, then the admin user name will be Comcast and the password for this router will be 1234.

However, if you have a different make or model than is listed here, you will need to use the information provided to you when you purchased the device. You can call customer service if you have forgotten this information.
Once you have physically installed the Linksys wireless router into your computer and Internet connection, you will need to enter the Linksys admin information into the system. Then, you will be taken through a setup process that allows you to choose which devices in the home or office you wish to link together in your network. If you decide to, you can change the user name and password if you would like. However, this is not required.

How do I Retreive my LinkSys Router Password?

I lost the paperwork with my LinkSys router password. I desperately searched but could not find it. Everyone kept telling me that I could not retrieve my Linksys router password but would have to reset the router. I was sure there should be a way to retrieve my Linksys router password. So I very determinedly set out to find the secret to retrieve my linkSys router password. What did I find after looking all over the internet? There is only one thing to do once you have lost a LinkSys router password. You have to reset the router. Before doing anything it is a good idea to record what the settings are for the router. Then it is time to set the LinkSys router password back to its default one.

Wireless Extenders YX545 zBoost Soho Dual Band Cell Phone Signal Extender Booster with YX039 zBoost Dual-Band Outdoor Antenna Upgrade

Designed for consumers, the improved zBoost SOHO YX545 cell phone signal booster extends a Cell Zone for multiple users and ALL devices operating on 800 and 1900 MHz frequency bands except those using Nextel/iDEN, 4G or 2100MHz. The new zBoost SOHO improves coverage by 20 percent over the zBoost YX510 and boosts signal up to 3000 square feet, making it perfect for your home or office. Apparently there is this little hole, a pinhole, on the back of the router. It should indicate that it is the reset button. Take a paperclip or pen tip and put it into the hole. You need to press down for several seconds, about 30 seconds works. If you do it right then the lights on the front will go on and off showing that it is reset. Pushing the reset button puts the router back to the factory default settings. This is called a hard reset.

That seems easy enough. However that is not the end of it. You have to log onto the router and reconfigure it. There are some very simple steps to follow to do this. First make sure a computer is connected to the router. Use one of the Ethernet ports. Then turn on the computer. Let the web browser load up. The enter URL http://192.168.1.1/. A popup box should show up. It will request that you enter a username and password to login to your router. The default password is in the routers owner's manual. Which does you no good if you don't have any idea where the owner's manual is.

Without the owner's manual there is still the chance to reset the router. Some of the older LinkSys routers default username is blank, not the word blank but actually nothing. The default username for BEFW11S4, WRT54G is admin. For EtherFast Cable/DSL Ethernet routers default username is Administrator. Comcast routers default username is comcast. The default password for BEFW11S4 is nothing or blank. Older models of LinkSys routers default username is blank, or nothing, not the word. With the newer models it is admin. Comcast routers default password is 1234. After you get past the login screen you will be able to easily reconfigure the LinkSys router.

What Is a Linksys Router Why Do I Need One?

There are a variety of ways in which people connect to the internet, but the number one way involves a router. This router can be used to connect one computer, or multiple computers to the internet. Some attach it directly to their computer, while others use a wireless network card to use the internet without using any cords or wires. In the majority of cases users chose a Linksys router to meet their needs.

Linksys is the primary maker of routers used by a number of the current internet service providers. Both Time Warner Cable and Comcast use Linksys routers, and these are two of the biggest internet service providers in the United States. When a customer decides to use a broadband system, to upgrade to wireless service, or decides to use high speed cable to access the internet, the company will send an installer out to their home or business. The installer will be in charge of connecting the Linksys router into the existing cable lines. From the time the call is made to the moment when the user can connect to the internet can be as little as a few short days. Check it out!

There are a number of internet service providers that do not utilize Linksys routers, but instead choose a different manufacturer. Even Time Warner and Comcast use different makers in different parts of the country. That does not mean that users cannot take advantage of a Linksys router, but they will have to purchase it on their own. There are several companies and shops that sell these. They are available in mass merchandise stores along the lines of Target and Wal-Mart. Some electronics or specialty stores such as Radio Shack, Best Buy, and Circuit City also sell them. Shoppers often find them on sale in the stores, or they may include a mail in rebate. Other users may prefer to look for a Linksys router online at a store such as Amazon. These stores often provide substantial discounts as compared to traditional stores. For instance the Linksys Router-G which retails for $69.99 can be found online for less than $50 and often with free shipping. Many people prefer to use a Linksys router because it allows them to connect several computers onto the same system. A household where one person uses a desktop computer and one or more people use a laptop computer especially find a Linksys router helpful. They can attach the desktop computer directly to the router using wires and cables. The other laptop computers can then be connected to the system using wireless network cards. Everyone in the house can use the same system without using the same computer.

A Linksys router is the most popular choice for many households. The hardware can easily be found, and easily installed onto one computer or multiple computers. Everyone in the household will have access to the same high speeds and wireless access, without being in the same room. Many users can also use the hardware at the same time, without causing any problems.
